TOTORA WASI, GENERATION OF LARGE-SCALE DESIGNS

Parish: San Rafael de la Laguna.

 

2. INTRODUCTION

 

Totora Wasi is a community enterprise for the production and marketing of artisanal producers of totora (a plant that grows around Lake Imbakucha - Yahuarcocha).

 

Various crafts, basketry, ornaments, exclusive designs are made with natural fiber whose partners are women and men from different communities. Artisans actively contribute to the artisanal, tourist, commercial and human development of members and communities; and promotes community organization and participation with local identity. 

 

Totora Wasi generates work for several artisans in the parish of San Rafael de la Laguna

 

3. BENEFICIARIES

The direct and indirect beneficiaries will be 15 families of different artisans from the communities of the Parish of San Rafael de la Laguna, suppliers (locksmiths, carpenters, upholsterers, stores), as well as important clients from different cities in the country.

 

4. JUSTIFICATION

The Totora Wasi Entrepreneurship was born from the need to continue designing and marketing products made with the natural totora fiber.  As a basis for enhancing the production of reed crafts and the fair marketing of its products for the direct and indirect benefit of the communities involved, promoting participation and self-management to improve socio-economic conditions and the proper management of their environment. 

 

With the reimbursable funds from FEDICE, we will largely be able to acquire the inventory of direct raw materials, the different metal molds.   

 

The resources will be invested in the purchase of 300 bundles of reeds already treated between fine and coarse, primary color dyes, it is necessary to process the dyed reeds in different colors, structures and metal molds, the investment will be $9,000 which will be processed in different stages during the fiscal period 2023-2024.

 

5. OBJETIVES  

General objective

Buy raw materials and dyes to process different colors to generate designs for different points of sale in the city of Quito and Cuenca.

 

Specific objectives

 

  1. Increase labor to make different designs with natural reed fiber.   

  2. Generate designs to place in different points of the stores on a commission basis. 

  3. Generate brand positioning ideas in coordination with different professionals.

7. WORK STRATEGY

 

FEDICE's work will be focused on the injection of capital for the organization (purchase of raw materials) and its possible derivation in strengthening family finances through the creation of a Savings and Credit Bank.

 

This project promotes the preservation of employment of the 15 families that participate in the organization, and its positive effect on the generation of economic income that can be used to achieve better living conditions.
